Adamspeak

Adamspeak mountain is the most important attraction to the Wathsala Inn…

The religious importance

Buddhist pilgrims ascend the 2245m (7242ft) high peak to commemorate Buddha’s legendary footprint. Every year, over 300.000 pilgrims visit this site. Sri Pads is a Sanskrit word that means “holy footprint.”

The Hindus revere the mountain for another reason: it is known as “Shivas Peak.” The old Indian Church believes that the apostle Thomas lived there during his journey in India, whereas Muslims refer to it as “Adam’s Peak” and interpret the footprints as those of the first man. Sri Pada is a holy mountain of historic significance in the history of religions.

As Sri Lanka’s most exhilarating, adventurous, and picturesque hill climb. In addition to the religious necessity, most people trek to the summit to witness the splendor of the rising sun, which is a beautiful occurrence produced by mother nature.
